Baseball Notches First Home Win, 9-5, Over Hofstra
The Army West Point Baseball Team earned its first home win of the season here Wednesday afternoon after it defeated Hofstra, 9-5. The Black Knights trailed 1-0 early but responded with nine runs over a five-inning span to create a 9-1 gap between the teams heading into the sixth. The visitors then tried to rally in the ninth and did manage to score four runs but the Black Knights turned a double play before striking out the final batter to secure the win. Pitcher Ray Bartoli was impressive in his second career start, going 5.0 innings allowing just two hits and one unearned run. The yearling also recorded three strikeouts in his first collegiate win. Andre Walden led the Black Knights' offensive output, finishing 3-for-5 with a run batted in and two runs scored. Seven of Army's nine cadet-athletes in the lineup registered at least one hit. Jacob Hurtubise, Jeremiah Adams and John McKenna all posted a team-best two RBI each. Anthony Giachin joined Walden with a game-high two runs scored. Read more.
