Cadets Visit the Dutch Resistance Museum
Cadets on the Operation Market-Garden Staff Ride traveled by train to Amsterdam to visit the Dutch Resistance Museum. Through this visit, cadets gained a greater understanding of the impact of World War II on the Dutch population, the various ways that the Dutch resisted German occupation, and some of the moral/ethical choices that this resistance involved. At the same time, cadets were exposed to the dilemmas that people were confronted with during occupation and the ugly reality that some members of the Dutch population actively collaborated with the German occupiers due to several motivations. The day ended with the group enjoying a rijstafel, which is a traditional Dutch-Indonesian dinner eaten family-style.
