Women’s Soccer Rallies Back for First Win of 2019
Fueled by three unanswered goals in the final 23 minutes of play, the Army West Point Women's Soccer team rallied back to defeat Albany, 3-2, in the 89th minute, marking the team and Academy's first win of the 2019-20 year. Plebe Elise Urkov and Alyssa Carfagno had breakout performances on the night as the team's goal scorers. Urkov netted Army's first goal and the equalizer spaced 11 minutes apart. Carfagno scored the game-winner in the 89th minute.
Albany went up 2-0 with goals in the 28th and 66th minute. The Black Knights sparked a momentum shift three minutes later when Sydney Cassalia took advantage of a goal kick and booted the ball down to an open Urkov for the score. Lauren Drysdale and Morgan Walsh setup Urkov's second goal which was a chip to the left side of the net. With 1:16 remaining in the game, Erynn Johns sailed the ball to the far post where Dani Mendoza was able to move it in front to Carfagno. She stormed in and kicked the ball in to the goal to secure Army's first victory of the season. Read more.
