The Queen of Spades SymposiumThe Russian Program organized a symposium centered around Tchaikovsky's opera The Queen of Spades, performed at the Met. In attendance were cadets and faculty from West Point, along with students and faculty from Columbia, Yale, Vassar, Princeton, and George Washington University.

Cadets were honored to be joined by Brigadier General Rick McPeak, Professor and former Head of the Department of Foreign Languages at West Point, Professor Alexander Nakhimovsky, Associate Professor Emeritus, Linguistics and Computer Science Colgate University, Professor Boris Gasparov and Boris Bakhmeteff Professor Emeritus of Russian and East European Studies at Columbia University, author of Five Operas and a Symphony and foremost scholar of Tchaikovsky's operas.

Professor Bakhmeteff gave a probing and fascinating lecture after the truly brilliant performance. Afterward, the cadets had dinner at a nearby Russian restaurant, which features magnificent Soviet kitsch.
