Mountaineering on Shawangunk Ridge
The Mountaineering Team took a winter trip to the Shawangunk Ridge, or “The Gunks”.
Despite the high of 34 degrees, the team got after some “top roping”. The cold didn’t bother the mountaineers, many of whom stayed warm and looked dapper sporting their new team jackets.
As practiced in the gym the team set up four top ropes using a variety of anchoring techniques. This was the first time some of the younger members of the team had done so, allowing them to demonstrate their proficiency with systems.
Upper classmen supervised the process, ensuring safety and redundancy, while also giving some creative tricks. The team knocked out a few routes before it started snowing and called it an early day.
