Cadets Conduct a Virtual Workshop for High School Students
Six USMA Cadets along with ROTC Cadets from St. Mary’s and University of Texas in San Antonio (UTSA) conducted a virtual workshop for 95 High School students in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) recently. This Center for Leadership and Diversity in STEM (CLD-STEM) event stemmed from a partnership with SAISD JROTC, the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equal Opportunity (ODIEO), and West Point Society leaders. CDTs from USMA and ROTC led each of the smaller groups through modules that were developed by CDTs Audrey Hamilton and Ronasia Ball as part of their research projects. CDT Hamilton’s module centered around origami math while CDT Ball’s module involved projectile motion using a catapult design. Materials for both modules were shipped as kits prior to the event and instructors successfully talked students through the activities. Wonderful academic mentorship and service-oriented scholarship!
