Rifle Team Captain Kyle Kutz Heading to ISSF Junior World Championships
Army Rifle Team Captain Kyle Kutz will be heading to South America to compete in the ISSF Junior World Championships. Based on his Plebe performance in NCAA competition during the 2020 season, Kutz's 585.4 shot average in smallbore secured a qualifier to the NCAA Championships, where he earned a fourth-place finish in the Finals after shooting a 590/600 score.
“We are super excited for Kyle and this opportunity to represent the United States at the world level. His performance at the NCAA Championships last spring really put him on the radar with the National Team. Kyle is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached”, said Army Rifle Head Coach Web Wright. “It's obvious that he approaches his training from an analytical point of view. These are qualities that will make him a stellar officer.”
Set to compete in both the Junior Men's 50m 3 Position Smallbore (3x40) and Junior Men's 50m Prone, the newest USA Shooting National Futures Team selection will head to Lima, Peru for the 14-day competition. Speaking with media on Tuesday, Kutz, a sophomore, spoke about the opportunity to compete on the National stage.
“I am very grateful that they are still holding the Championships during COVID-19. Coming off of a great season last year, I have high ambitions for my performance in Peru. I think we have a strong team heading down and we will represent the U.S. well. Looking forward to seeing many Team USA members on the podium!”, said Kutz. Read more.
